Day 4 Wed, 04 Oct Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel Island, Azores (B,L,D)
Welcome to the Azores, a mid-Atlantic Portuguese archipelago. In Ponta Delgada, pass through the Doors to the Sea, a contemporary architectural marina, and three Baroque arches known as the City Gates. Near the shore is the Gothic church of São Sebastião and a Renaissance fortress. Today choose one of our Scenic Freechoice activities or join a more active Scenic Discovery excursion.
Freechoice:
Furnas: Visit Vila Franca do Campo, the first capital of the island of São Miguel, where you can admire the famous islet of Vila Franca with its crater inside. Continue towards Furnas, stopping at the beautiful Furnas Lake, which is located in an ancient volcanic crater, to observe volcanic phenomena known as fumaroles, as well as the various types of water springs. Before returning to Scenic Eclipse, take in the view at Ponta Delgada.
Sete Cidades: Begin this Scenic Freechoice option by visiting the traditional pineapple plantation, an organic crop developed in greenhouses, and where you will be able to taste the pineapple liqueur. Continue to the west coast of the island, passing by the famous Pico do Carvão viewpoint to enjoy the breathtaking view over both coasts of the island. Surrounded by vividly colored vegetation, find the Vista do Rei viewpoint, the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades, where you can delight in the superb view over the blue and green lagoon. Descending into the interior of the crater, we can see another lake, the Santiago Lagoon. Stop in the center of Sete Cidades to visit the São Nicolau church, a 19th-century temple following the neo-Gothic style.
Lagoa do Fogo: Enjoy the opportunity to visit the natural monument of Caldeira Velha, a natural reserve where you can take a bath (optional) in thermal waters coming from a waterfall. Climb to the top and arrive at the Lagoa do Fogo and take in the breathtaking view. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, descend to the city of Ribeira Grande, where you will visit the regional liquor store, as well as walk around the city center.
Discovery:
Trail Vista do Rei: Venture to the Vista do Rei viewpoint and join a local guide as you walk along the southwest slope of the Sete Cidades ridges. During your walk, it’s possible to see the interior of the crater with its different lakes and volcanic formations.

Angra do Heroísmo is the capital of Terceira Island and a place where history and culture still thrive. Walk through this historic hub of this UNESCO World Heritage Site as the beauty whisks you away.
Freechoice:
Terceira Island tour: Visit the must-see spots on Terceira Island. See Monte Brasil, a site where an ancient extinct volcano originated in the sea and joined the land, and appreciate the beautiful view of the World Heritage city Angra do Heroísmo. Pass by the Monument of the Toiro, a representative statue of one of the traditions in the island. In the village of São Sebastião, visit one of the oldest churches on the island with 16th-century paintings. Day 6 Fri, 06 Oct Horta, Faial Island (B,L,D)
Referred to as Portugal’s best-kept secret, the volcanic island is overflowing with charm and incredible scenery. Horta has been a part of seafaring history for centuries.
Freechoice:
Whale watching: More than 20 species of cetaceans inhabit or pass through our waters along their migratory routes. Known in the past as an important hunting ground for sperm whales, since the mid-1980s, the Azores have become one of the best case studies of how the presence of whales and dolphins can be transformed into an ecologically sustainable business with great educational value and full protection granted to the animals. Join a local vessel and cruise the waters, learning about the biology and behavior of the whale and dolphin species you could encounter at sea, along with their conservation status.
Faial Island tour: The breathtaking views of this Scenic Freechoice will steal your heart. From Espalamaca's viewpoint, you can see the entire Horta Bay, believed to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Continue to the natural park of Caldeira do Faial and explore the imposing crater of the most important volcano on the island. Pass by the inactive Ribeirinha Lighthouse, Porto do Salão, and allow yourself to be amazed by the Ribeira Funda viewpoint, offering a view over the stream and waterfall with the same name. See the UNESCO World Geopark Morro de Castelo Branco, also considered an important bird and biodiversity area by BirdLife International. Explore Monte da Guia, a set of two volcanoes (one marine and one terrestrial) connected by an isthmus with sand dunes and a beach. Being one of the few places in the Azores with sand dunes, it’s a truly privileged habitat for several species of fauna, especially birds.
Day 7 Sat, 07 Oct At sea (B,L,D)
After a busy few days of shore excursions, today might be the day to re-acquaint yourself with the extensive wellness offerings at Senses Spa. Choose to indulge in a range of treatments and wellness experiences available, including massages and facials, body wraps and scrubs, manicures, and pedicures – there’s also a strong focus on alternative therapies, such as reflexology, shiatsu and Tibetan bowl sound therapy. Your Discovery Team is always available to offer fascinating insights into the destinations you’ve visited, whether that’s identifying a particular bird or learning more about the history. Find an expert roaming the ship or pull up a seat in the theatre for an Enrichment Lecture.
Day 8 Sun, 08 Oct At sea (B,L,D)
Little luxuries in big places – it’s quite remarkable to have the privilege to explore such a wonderful part of the world in Scenic Eclipse style. There’s nothing quite as thrilling as sipping a glass of champagne when a whale glides by or be on your private balcony with a mug of coffee delivered hot by your butler and binoculars while spotting migrating sea birds.
If you’re feeling inspired, you may have the chance to join a wine tasting in Epicure with your Discovery Yacht’s Head Sommelier or a cooking demonstration with the Executive Chef – check your Daily Wonder briefing. You can make the most of lively trivia sessions in the Lounge and Enrichment Lectures at the state-of-the-art theatre.
End your evening with a nightcap in the theatre, where your Discovery Yacht’s Cruise Directors host live vocals ranging from pop and opera to musical theatre.
Day 9 Mon, 09 Oct At sea (B,L,D)
Choose to enjoy a lazy morning in a super-comfortable bed, watching the ocean drift by outside your window. Today might be the day you call upon your butler to bring you breakfast in-suite, perhaps enjoyed on your private patio in the sunshine.
When it comes time to venture out, wellness seminars on a range of fascinating subjects await in the spa or theatre, perhaps followed by a yoga or Pilates session in the dedicated studio before lunch.
Come lunchtime, meet new friends for a relaxed meal in the Yacht Club, where you can order dishes inspired by the destinations you’re visiting alongside classic comfort food. Or make your way to the Azure Bar & Cafe, your Discovery Yacht’s all-day-dining restaurant, where you can choose your favorite dish from the a la carte menu.
Day 10 Tue, 10 Oct At sea (B,L,D)
You might choose to head to the Open Bridge to witness firsthand how Scenic Eclipse uses state-of-the-art technology to navigate smoothly through the rolling seas. The Discovery Yacht also has an Azipod propulsion system that ensures the lowest noise and vibration levels to ensure minimal disturbance to marine life.
By now, you will have enjoyed many of Scenic Eclipse’s restaurants at least once. As your voyage only has a couple of days left, take the opportunity to indulge at your favorite venue one last time. Share stories with your new friends over an afternoon cocktail in one of Scenic Eclipse’s nine all-inclusive bars, including the Scenic Bar, where more than 100 premium whiskies and spirits are available. Cheers to an incredible voyage!
